On February 7, the Report The European Union and the Sustainable Development Goals, produced by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) in partnership with Terna was presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the event attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Elisabetta Belloni, and representatives of foreign embassies, cultural institutes, UN agencies and international organisations, together with Terna’s CEO and General Manager, Luigi Ferraris. The results of the study on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have shown that, while the European Union represents the most advanced area in terms of achieving the SDGs of the UN Agenda 2030, there are still serious delays that could compromise the implementation of the action plan to which all countries in the world committed in 2015. During the meeting, the English version of the study, conducted in collaboration with Terna, was also presented: “It is the report on the state of Italy and Europe with respect to the 17 Objectives of Sustainable Development”, said Enrico Giovannini, spokesman of ASviS, “it is unique in the world, which is why we also wanted to translate it into English and present it to foreign embassies in our country”. In the light of the results of the study, therefore, different situations persist between the various EU countries, although the EU itself remains the most advanced area with respect to the implementation of the 17 objectives agreed by the United Nations, which aim to achieve economic and social development targets. In this regard, the CEO and General Manager Luigi Ferraris reiterated the importance that environmental sustainability plays in the corporate options pursued by the national electricity grid operator: “It is necessary to demonstrate commitment to sustainable development, because the role of private companies is crucial when it comes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the national, European and global levels,” said the CEO and General Manager. He pointed out that the Group that manages the electricity transmission grids believes that “sustainability is not only a founding principle of our corporate identity, but also the driving force behind our industrial presence in Italy and abroad”. In fact, for some time now Terna has been taking up the energy transition challenge underway in Italy and the rest of the world. Indeed, last year the Group allocated investments of over six billion euros over the period 2019-2023 through the Strategic Plan Grids and Values – Accelerating a Sustainable Growth, to strengthen the Italian electricity grid for increased environmental sustainability and territorial development.
